At The League of Remembrance, our mission is simple but powerful: to rebuild lives and forge futures.
For more than 100 years, we’ve stood beside veterans, their families, and retired nurses, people who’ve given so much, and deserve just as much in return. Now, as we look ahead, we’re broadening our reach, supporting individuals living with illness or disability, and helping them rediscover purpose, pride, and connection.
We do this by:
Empowering people through meaningful volunteering
Supporting life-changing local projects
Partnering with organisations that share our values
These are just some of the ways we’re making a difference—together.
The Projects We’re Proud to Support
Level Best, Colchester: Training for Life
At Level Best, young disabled adults, gain essential skills in catering, customer service and workplace confidence.
We’ve partnered with Level Best for five years, supporting 20 training placements that open real doors to employment.
One trainee used our help to build their CV and prepare for interviews. Today, they’re working as a laboratory assistant – their first job since leaving school.
Another young woman, Nicola, has grown in confidence and now takes on customer-facing roles with pride and professionalism.
This is what it looks like when people are given the tools, and belief, to succeed.
Shore Leave Haslar: Wellbeing in Bloom
Set in the peaceful grounds of a former naval hospital, Shore Leave Haslar offers therapy through gardening, woodwork, and creative arts, all led by a former Royal Navy Nursing Officer.
It’s more than a garden. It’s a sanctuary for veterans recovering from trauma and isolation.
We were proud to help by supporting new gardening tools, enabling more veterans to reconnect with nature, and themselves.
Charlton Park RDA: Changing Lives with Horses
Run entirely by volunteers—some with 30+ years of service—Charlton Park Riding for the Disabled offers riding lessons and horse care to children with disabilities, completely free of charge.
To keep the programme thriving, we’re helping them buy a new pony—and celebrating progress with the Princess Beatrice Award for Rider of the Year.
Because every child deserves to feel joy, freedom, and pride.
HighGround: Recovery Through the Land
HighGround connects injured personnel and veterans to new careers through land-based training—from farming to horticulture.
We helped fund a Christmas wreath-making project at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), allowing residents to rebuild mobility and confidence with adapted tools that made sure everyone could take part.
