Our Volunteer Partners: Who We Are and Where We Help

The League of Remembrance partners with and serves a diverse range of hospitals, charities, and community organisations in Greater London, Buckinghamshire, and Essex.

Our approach is simple: we want to support and enable as many people as possible through charitable support, volunteering and mentoring. Here are just some of the places you can find us:

Florence Nightingale Hospice

Special Projects and Charity Partnerships

Our five-year partnership supports the training of young adults with autism and other learning disabilities in the charity’s café and art gallery, helping them build confidence and gain work experience. Nicola, for example, learned to serve customers, manage busy days, and ask for help when needed—skills that open new employment opportunities. Read the case study

Entirely volunteer-run, this group gives disabled children free horse riding and care lessons. With League support, the purchase of a new pony and the Princess Beatrice Award ceremony bring joy to children and families every year. Read the case study

A healing memorial garden in a historic hospital, where veterans and others find purpose and recovery through gardening, art, and woodworking, supported by League support for new tools and resources. Read the case study

For many veterans living with PTSD, regaining a sense of calm and trust can be challenging. Warrior Equine offers equine therapy programmes that bring veterans together with horses in a safe, supportive environment. The League was proud to fund three Veterans to attend a week-long course, where they developed confidence, emotional resilience, and new coping strategies through this unique and powerful form of therapy.

Sport has the power to bring people together, but for many disabled individuals, access can be limited. Our work with Sport for Confidence supported volunteer training and the installation of a new wheelchair-accessible ramp. This small but vital improvement ensures that more disabled people can take part in inclusive sporting activities, building fitness, confidence, and community connections.

Opening Access to the Countryside: The countryside should be open to all. In partnership with Hampshire County Council, the League co-funded the installation of two new wheelchair-accessible kissing gates. These gates make footpaths safer and easier to use for disabled individuals, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of nature, exercise, and fresh air – simple joys that help foster dignity, wellbeing, and inclusion.
